Welcome to Reception

Reception Blog 03.11.23

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have been learning about our school community and the children enjoyed reading the story of ‘The colour monster goes to school.’ Children practised writing words and sentences about their favourite activity in school using their sounds.

In Maths, we learnt how to find, represent and subitise numbers 1,2 and 3 through different activities.

This week, we also read the story of ‘the dot’, and each child completed a dot painting using cotton buds and different colours of paints.

As children are now streamed into different phonics groups, there will be no phonics home learning this week. Please check the curriculum letter and the blog next week for any updates.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Reception Team.

Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have been learning about ‘Feelings’ the children enjoyed reading the story of ‘The colour monster.’ They created their own unique colour monsters.

In English the children practiced using their sounds to write words by labelling how their colour monster felt.

In Maths we compared different sizes, we focused on their length, height and over all size. We used new vocabulary; tall-short, big-small and long-short.

This week on 2nd October we celebrated St Cyprian’s day, we created hand-made flowers and worked together to produce some St Cyprian inspired art work.

Due to staff absences children will now be splitting into their phonics groups next week and will receive their extra phonics reading book on Monday.

Welcome to Reception!

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to the Reception Blog!

Your Children have began to settle well into their new classes and are beginning to form some strong friendships. Now that we are a few weeks into reception and our daily routines are being established, we would ask you to encourage your children to be independent when coming in to school in the mornings.

As you will have seen your child has been bringing home 1 reading book on a Monday, this is a book for pleasure for you to share with your child.

From next week your child will be bringing home an additional book which will be in line with our phonics scheme. Please practice this book daily with your child. Some children will be bringing home books with no words, this is to encourage them to use story telling language, please ask your child to tell the story using the pictures.

If you would like to support your child in learning the sounds that have been covered so far in phonics please give them time to watch the videos bellow.  More information on Phonics and how you can support your child at home will follow.

Jack and the Beanstalk!

Dear Parents,

This week children have been exploring the book of  ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. Children have learnt about the life cycle of a bean and enjoyed planting their own beans.

In Maths, we continued learning about ‘wholes’ and ‘not wholes’.

On Tuesday the children enjoyed the NED assembly, were they learnt to never give up and keep trying to be the best they can.

We talked about how to be kind and help others through the story of the ‘Good Samaritan’.

Have a great weekend.

Oscar and the Frog!

Dear Parents,

This week children have enjoyed the story ‘Oscar and the Frog’. We have been looking at the Life Cycle of the Frog and comparing it with the Life Cycle of Butterfly and Plant.

During Maths, we explored numbers bonds to 5 and 10 (a combination of pairs, which, when added, give the sum as a whole number).

In PHSE, we celebrated Fathers Day and shared our experiences with important male figures in our families. We also, made cards for the children to share with their loved ones.

Have a lovely weekend,
