Reception 15.2.2019

This past week has been Investigation week. In reception we have learnt all about Elephants.

The children have been researching Elephant facts and writing information books. In our numeracy lessons the children learnt about how to order items according to their sizes.

 Week Beginning  25.02.2019

When we return to school after half term we will be introducing our new topic to the children, which will be Dinosaurs.

Literacy:- We will be reading the book Dinosaur Chase. We will be beginning to use our sounds to create short sentences.

Maths:- Our focus this week will be learning how to find one more than a given number.

RE:- Our focus will be Gods friends love us.

Phonics:-  The children will be working in their groups and  will be revising all of their  set 1 letter sounds . We will be focusing on blending and segmenting.

 

Please note

  • A reminder to parents that this week will be Half Term.
  • All children should now be able to access Purple Mash using their passwords that are in the front of their reading records.

Reception 4.2.2019

This past week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year.

The children have been learning all about the 12 animals that represent each year and have focused on this year’s animal which is the Pig. The children learnt to write Chinese numerals and Happy New Year. They made dragons and Chinese lanterns, and learnt about how Chinese New Year is celebrated.

Next Week 11.02.2019

Next week will be Investigation Week for the whole school and we will be learning about Endangered animals. In Reception we will be learning focusing on Elephants.

Literacy:- We will be reading a variety of Elmer the Elephant stories.  We will also be researching Elephant fact and writing our own information books.

Maths:- Our focus this week will be size and measurement. The children will be ordering a range of items according to their size and length. We will also be learning how to accurately measure objects.

RE:- We will be learning about the presentation of the Lord to the temple.

Phonics:-  The children will be working in their groups and  will be revising all of their  set 1 letter sounds.

 

Please note

  • A reminder to parents that this week will be investigation week.
  • Please can you send it any spare pennies that you have at home , so that the children can take part in the penny challenge.
  • All children should now be able to access Purple Mash using their passwords that are in their front  of their  reading records.

This term our topic is Transport.
This week we looked at Transport on the land
This week we read the books ‘naughty bus’ and ‘Mrs Armitage queen of the road.’ The children Wrote sentences about the naughty bus.
In maths we looked at pictographs and the children enjoyed finding out what each other’s favourite foods were.

Next Week 28.1.19
Next week our focus will be transport on the water, we will be reading the story ‘Captain duck’ and thinking about different vehicles that may travel on the water.
Literacy:- In literacy we will be using our phonic knowledge to write short sentences about the story.
Maths:- we will be naming 2D shapes and using these to create pictures of different vehicles.
RE:- We will be learning about How God created the world, specifically things that live in the, we will also be taking part in a whole school assembly where Father George will blessing us and our Vasilopita’s
Phonics:- we have recently assessed the children and our phonics sessions will now be in small groups.
These groups will be focusing on ensuring that children have a secure understanding of all of the set 1 letter sounds. We shall also begin teaching the children digraphs such as ‘sh’ and ‘ch’. Children will continuing to focus on blending sounds in order to read words.

• There will be an Early years Phonics workshop on 29th January at 6pm and also 31st January at 9am, Parents are expected to attend at least one of these workshops.

 

Reception 14.1.19

This term our topic is Transport.

This past week we have been reading the book ‘Whatever Next’ and discussing how baby bear travelled to space and talked about all the different types of transport that travel in the sky.

The children have been retelling the story using props in the role play area, and sequencing the story in literacy.

In Re the Children have learnt about how God created the world, specifically things that live in the sky.

 

Next Week 21.1.19

Next week our focus will be transport that is on the land we will be reading the stories, “Naughty Bus, and Mrs Armitage queen of the road”.

Literacy:- We will be using our phonic knowledge to write sentences and list objects from the story.

Maths:- We will be introducing the children to bar graphs and asking the children what their favourite vehicles are. The children will be creating their own bar charts.

RE:- We will be learning about How God created the world, specifically things that are on the land

Phonics:-  The children will be working in their groups and  will be focusing on ensuring that they know all of their set 1 letter sounds. We shall also continue teaching the children diagraphs such as ‘th’ and ‘qu’. Children will be continuing to focus on blending sounds in order to read words.

Reception 11.1.19

Welcome back, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and we would like to thank you all for you kind cards and gifts.

This term our topic is Transport.

This past week we have been reading the book ‘We all go traveling by’ and discussing different modes of transport.

The children have been designing their own vehicles and decorating them.

The Children have learnt about the celebration of ‘Theophania.’

 

Next Week 14.1.19

Next week our focus will be transport that is in the sky we will be reading the story “Whatever next” and talking about what the bear in the story used to get to the moon. Children will be sequencing and retelling.

Literacy:- In literacy we will be using our phonic knowledge to write a list of things that we would want to take to space with us.

Maths:- We will be introducing the children to Tally charts and looking at the different ways that we travel to school. The children will be creating their own tally charts.

RE:- We will be learning about How God created the world, specifically things that live in the sky.

Phonics:- we have recently assessed the children and our phonics sessions will now be in small groups.

These groups will be focusing on ensuring that children have a secure understanding of all of the set 1 letter sounds. We shall also begin teaching the children diagraphs such as ‘sh’ and ‘ch’. Children will continuing to focus on blending sounds in order to read words.
