Animals – Farm, Zoo and Jungle

This week we have been:

Learning about animals that live in the jungle, we read ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ and ‘A tiger came to tea’. We looked at different places that a bear and tiger might live, how they behave and what they look like. We painted pictures and read the stories to each other.

In phonics this week we learnt the sounds:

‘z’ – zig, zag, zig.

‘ch’ – curl around the caterpillar, from his head to his feet over his back.

Please talk to the children about these sounds at home and try to find items that start with these sounds.

In maths this week we have been learning how to count anything we see. We went around the classroom counting magnets, books, pictures, scissors, name cards etc. We added sticky notes to the item so that others could see how many we found.

We have been very busy preparing our picnic for our parents and carers. We made sandwiches, pizza, cupcakes and popcorn, we also prepared fruit, crisps, cucumber, carrots and juice. We have been growing cress this week and we used this in our sandwiches. We also had lots of fun icing all the cupcakes we made. We hope that you had a great time.

In RE this week we have been talking about Fathers day, we discussed how important our fathers are to us and what they do for us.  We then spoke about all the people that care for us and how we show them our love. Our family picnic is just one way we can show our families we care. We hope that you made it and that you had a great time.

Next week we will be:

  • Continuing our learning on zoo and jungle animals.
  • Talking about the animals we will see on our class trip.
  • Looking at 2D shapes.
  • Thinking about people who are special to us.
  • Learning about the story ‘Pandora’s box’.

Thank you for your ongoing support, Mrs Herne.
