Animals – Zoo and Jungle

This week we have been:

Continuing our learning about animals, focusing on animals in the jungle and in zoos. We read ‘Rumble in the jungle’ and read and listened to a pop up jungle book. We listened to the animal sounds in the book and had a guess at which animal we think we can hear. We had a great fun using the ‘Rumble in the jungle’ story in the sand tray.

In phonics this week we learnt the sounds:

‘x’ – from his hand to his foot repeat the other side.

‘qu’ – around her face, down her hair, give her a flick. Down under up and down to the puddle.

Next week we will be learning our last sound ng/nk. We will be revisiting the sounds over the next few week, please continue recapping the sounds at home.

In maths this week we continued looking at 2D shapes and talking about the properties of 2D shapes. We learnt about sides/edges, faces and points/corners. We counted how many they had and looked at similarities and differences between the shapes.

In RE this week we discussed people that care and love them. We then drew pictures of the people that we love on a cross that we had cut out.

In history we read ‘Pandora’s box’. We learnt that you should listen to and respect others. We enjoyed making our own boxes using the recycled materials.

On Friday this week we went to ‘Battersea Park Zoo’. We had lots of fun and met lots of different animals. Some we find on a farm, some in a jungle and some in our homes. Please come and have a look at the photos on Monday!

Next week we will be:

  • Continuing our learning about jungle animals, reading ‘Handa’s surprise’
  • Finishing our phonics learning by learning nk/ng.
  • Learning about 3D shape.
  • Continuing our learning about ancient Greece, looking at vases.

Friday 29th is our early years sports day, we hope that you can make it and support the children.

Thank you for your on going support, Mrs Herne.
