The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This week we have been:
Reading the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We have been using the soft toys to retell the story and sequencing the story using pictures from the story. We have been drawing pictures and writing words about the food at the hungry caterpillar ate. We have been taking care of five tiny caterpillars, they have been eating their food and they turned into fat caterpillars! They then turned into cocoons and we have been waiting for them to hatch into butterflies. This week they turned into butterflies and we released them into the school garden on Friday.
In maths this week we have been exploring symmetry. We have been talking about what symmetry is and making our own symmetrical pictures using the painting table. We have also explored using the mirrors in the sand tray and noticed symmetry on our butterflies when they hatched this week!
We have been singing 10 green bottles this week. We have been using the bottles in the maths area and using the song on the board. We know that the number starts with 10 and as the song goes along the number gets smaller and smaller.
In RE this week we have been learning about Pentecost. We recapped over the Ascension and spoke about what Pentecost is.
In science this week we have been focusing on the life-cycle of a butterfly. We have really enjoyed watching the caterpillars turn into cocoons and then into butterflies. we have also been exploring the life-cycle in the water tray and we watched the life-cycle of a butterfly using Ben and Holly and Vida the vet. We enjoyed watching them fly into the world on Friday.
We had great fun at the sports day this week! We really enjoyed working as a team and taking part in lots of different races. Please have a look at our photos from the morning.
Next week we will be:
- Learning about super heroes
- Continuing our learning about symmetry
- Exploring space through the ’10 little men in a flying saucer’ song
- Learning about the animals we will see on our trip to Battersea Park Zoo.

Wednesday, the 3rd of July will be our class trip to Battersea Park. Please ensure the children are in school on time on that day and wearing full school uniform. Please ensure they are also wearing sensible walking shoes and have their packed lunch in a plastic bag if they are bringing their own lunch.
As we are coming to the last few weeks before the summer we are starting to get things ready for the end of this school year. The last day of school for the children will be Tuesday 23rd July. Please let us know if your plans are different.
Thank you for your support, Mrs Herne
