Welcome to Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Dear parents and carers,

We are going to have an amazing year! We will have a lot of fun and go to our new learning adventure together.

This is the year for our young learners to shine brightly in our classrooms. Teachers are really excited to play, work and learn with these children. It will be a year of magical wonder and awesome growth, you will see it!!

During the past weeks, we have gotten to know each other, the new environment, our families and we made some new friends. And… this is just the beginning!

Our trip, this term will start ‘on a tree, “In the Woods“. Three baby owls Sarah, Percy and Bill, sit and think and wait for their Owl Mother to come home.’

Maths Week

Reception children have enjoyed Maths Week.

They have been working in pairs and groups using their mathematical thinking.

Today, parents have had the chance to come to Corfu and enjoy the morning working and learning with us. Thanks for coming!

Teachers would like to have a feedback.  You could write about your experience in Corfu class and/or you can help your child to write a caption/sentence(s) about it.

Kefallonia children went to the Butterfly House, it was an amazing experience that everyone enjoyed so far.

Children could write a sentence/caption about their experience there.

Thanks you and have a lovely weekend.

Sincerely,

Reception teachers.

Corfu Collective Worship

Hello Corfu parents!

I am glad to announce that on June 17th, Corfu class will have their Collective Workship at 9.oo am.

Corfu is learning about what an island is, that we all live on an island and Corfu is one as well. So it would be really nice if at home during the holidays, the children could create an island with recycling materials such as plastic bottles, cardboard and containers.

I have shared the Collective Workship script and the Greek song with the lyrics that we created for the occasion; children can practice during the half-term.

PS: For the costumes, girls will need a white dress and boys black trousers and white shirts. If you have at home something similar to Corfu’s traditional costume such as hats, it would be perfect. But please, you DO NOT need to buy anything.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR HELPING AND BEING PART OF THIS SPECIAL MOMENT.

HAPPY HALF TERM!!

Reception class, week ending 20-05-22

This week we have been learning about the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’, people and animals helping to pull out the turnip. Children discussed with their talk partners different ways to help each other to carry out activities.

At Mrs Shahzadi’s house, her children set the dinner table and help to clean up afterwards. What ways can you help at home? Could you help your grown-ups at home to tidy a room, clean the table, etc.? You can draw a picture and write a sentence. Don’t forget to bring your work to school.

Maths:

Children grasped the concept of Subtracting, taking away, how many fewer? They subtracted with Numicon Shapes by covering the part of the Shape being taken away so only the remaining pattern can be seen. In the sand tuff tray different Numicon pieces were placed over with a sheet. Children were encouraged to place their hands inside and pull out two pieces. The children compared which one is bigger and which one is smaller. What they would have left if they took the small one away from the bigger one and how many more the bigger one is than the smaller one.

Children enjoy your weekend!

In the Garden

The very hungry caterpillar.

A very happy new and warm welcome back to a new term at school.  The children have returned full of smiles, enthusiasm and news of their Easter holidays and we have very much enjoyed catching up with them all.

This term, our topic will be ‘In the garden’ and our learning will be inspired by reading lots of stories about minibeast and plants, such as ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ and ‘The enormous turnip’.

Reception class have been very busy observing our caterpillars. The children have been very motivated to record what they can see. This experience has supported our talk for writing and we have been learning the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Soon our caterpillars will turn into their cocoons. We are patiently waiting for our butterflies to emerge!

What can you see when you go to the park, or in your garden?? Do you think you can make a 3D poster about everything in your garden or park?

Have a lovely weekend,

Reception Teachers.
