Welcome to Year 3

Year 3 – week beginning 9th October

This week in literacy the children will be looking at non-fiction texts and recording information from non-fiction sources.

In maths this week, we will be learning to add two and three-digit numbers using the formal column method. This can be a difficult concept to grasp so any practise at home will help! We will also reinforce last week’s learning on how to measure precisely in cm and mm.

Please talk to your child about what times table they will be challenged on next Monday for their times table challenge, please keep practising at home.

Spetses will be swimming every Wednesday for the next 6 weeks, please remember all children must have a swimming hat or they will not be able to take part, this is the rules set by the swimming teachers at the pool.

This week in literacy the children will be writing their own fairy tales, we can’t wait to read them and see what they come up with!

This weeks spellings for a challenge on Friday: y3_wl_aut_3

In maths this week, we will be learning how to find the perimeter of shapes and how to measure more precisely e.g. in cm and mm.

We will also be looking at mental methods of addition and subtraction such as bridging. This can be a difficult concept to grasp so any practise at home will help!

The times table challenge for next Monday is the 8x table, please keep practising at home.

Spetses will be swimming every Wednesday for the next 6 weeks, please remember all children must have a swimming hat or they will not be able to take part, this is the rules set by the swimming teachers at the pool.

Year 3 week beginning 18th September

This week in Literacy we are continuing our work on fairy tales in the context of using conjunctions and writing extended sentences with subordinate clauses. Children will also be planning paragraphs for their own fairy tale.

This week in Numeracy we are consolidating our understanding of place value and number alongside drawing 2D shapes and discussing the properties of 2D shapes.

This week in Topic we are drawing and labelling parts of volcanoes.

This week in literacy we will be learning about stories with similar settings, with a focus on fairy tales.

The children will have a spelling test every Friday.

This week in numeracy, we will be learning about place value and adding and subtracting 10 and 100 to 2 digit and 3 digit numbers.

Next Mondays times table challenge will be the 3x table.

Please do not forget to bring in home learning every Wednesday.

 

Year 3- 4.9.17

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful summer and made some lovely memories.

This week in school is a settling in week to year 3, recapping school rules and expectations.

Every Monday we will have a spelling challenge, next Monday we will have a 2x table challenge out of order so please get practising!

The times tables the children must know this year are the 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, and 10x.

We will have a spelling challenge every Friday, the spellings will be given out every Monday and they will be put on the blog.

Homework will be given every Friday to be returned every Wednesday.

Please remember to change reading books often.

In literacy we will be learning how to make notes and summarise, in order to write our own reports.

In maths we will be answering questions involving division and multiplication. For division we will be using the bus stop method (short division) and for multiplication we will be using the column method. Please practise these at home.

In RE we will be learning about Saint Paul and Saint Peter.

Year 3 19.06.17

This week in literacy, we will be continuing with play scripts and we will be looking at some famous ones such as Greek Myths.

In numeracy we will be continuing with division and the bus stop method and we will also continue some work with finding non-unit fractions of a number e.g 3/4 of 20.

Please remember homework is due every Wednesday and to change reading books as often as possible.

Year 3 12.06.17

This week in numeracy we will be learning that multiplication undoes division and division undoes multiplication.

We will practise this by thinking of different number sentences to prove this fact.

We will also be practising the written method of division. This can be very tricky, please practise this at home.

 

In literacy we will be looking at different play scripts and the features of them. We will also be learning how to write up dialogue and actions into play scripts.

Year 3 05.06.17

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely half term!

This week is arts week, the theme is off to outer space. Therefore this week all of our learning will be around this topic!

We will be doing lots of art and would really appreciate any old news papers, kitchen rolls, foil paper, bottles, egg and cereal boxes you have so that we can build some rockets!

In RE this week we will be learning about the story of the Pentecost, this is a wonderful story that you can share at home with your children.
