Evia – Next Week’s Learning 13.5.2016
Book Bags: Please ensure that the children bring their book bag to school every day, as in addition to being a means of transporting reading materials it is a valuable method of communication. We encourage the children to give important notes from their parents directly to their class teacher or teaching assistant.
Uniform: Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Children will need their P.E. kits in school on PE days. Our P.E. days are Tuesday and Friday. Please encourage children to be independent dressers at home, as these skills will be helpful at school.
Reading: We change the children’s reading books daily, so if they have finished their book please ensure that the children put their home reading record and reading book in the basket every morning to be changed. Please support your child with reading at home.
Phonics: The Phonics scheme we follow is Read, Write, Inc. HFW, Year 1 Spellings and RWI sounds (please see below) these activities are ongoing for the year and not part of the weekly homework which is set on Mathletics and Spellodrome.
Handwriting: Please look at the letters sheet attached to see how we write each letter. We would recommend that you use this sheet to help your child when he/ she is completing any written work at home.
Homework: Homework will be set every Friday (published in our class blog). Please see below.
Learning: Our main topic this term is: What does it take to be an Olympic/ Para-Olympic Champion?
Next week in Literacy we will be focussing on the adventure story ‘The Little Mermaid’. We will be writing the story with a beginning, middle and end.
Next week in Numeracy we will be focusing on addition of multiples of 10 and one digit numbers. We will learn to read the time in hours and half hours using analogue clocks.
Next week in RE we will be learning about Jesus and share some of The Ten Commandments.
Next week in PE we will be focusing on Tri Golf and Rounders.
Please can all parents practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables at home with their children and the 3, 4, 6 once children have learnt 2, 5, 10.
During Arts Week (date tbc) there is an oracy competition where children will be asked to talk about a specific topic for 1 minute. In Year 1 our topic will be: Helping Others and how the Orthodox faith promotes this.
Please could parents help their children prepare a speech no longer than 1 minute about this topic and bring their speeches back to school by 27th May. Your support would be greatly appreciated!!!!! 🙂
We would like to invite you to our class assembly on Friday 20th May at 9am.
Thank you for your support!
Have a lovely weekend.
