Spetses week ending 07.02.25
In English, the children focused on writing a short adventure extract. The children considered various features to aid their writing, such as describing their setting using expanded noun phrases, using the rule of 3, including fronted adverbials, dialogue and synonyms for said.
In Maths, Year 3 focused on units of measure; measuring in metres, centimetres and millimetres, understanding their relationship, converting units of measure and comparing measures. Next week, year 3 will continue this unit with addition and subtraction measures and perimeter. In year4, continued to develop their understanding of division by extending from dividing 2-digit numbers to dividing 3-digit numbers. The children consolidated their understanding of correspondence problems, using multiplication to work out the number of possible combinations of sets of items. Furthermore, the children used their knowledge and understanding of multiplication to begin to make decisions regarding the most efficient or appropriate methods to use in a range of contexts.
In Science, the children focused on evaporation; investigating rates of evaporation in different conditions. They also learnt about the stages of the water cycle and how important this is to the environment. They finished the unit by looking into the climate change impacts on the water cycle.
