Literacy

For the next three weeks, we will be  looking at a significant author, Roald Dahl. During this topic we will be focusing on his style of writing and the language he uses. Also, we will be looking closely at all the texts we have studied. We will also plan and write an extended piece of writing on Roald Dahl.

Numeracy

We have recently been consolidating our four operations, which we will be continuing throughout the year. This week we will be extending our skills in Number  area, moving on to looking at our multiples, prime  and cube numbers.

Home Learning

In year we would like the children to be constantly practicing their times tables, number bonds, spellings and reading.

We suggest a minimum of 30mins of reading each day; this will consolidate strategies learnt in the class and ultimately make the children better and more confident readers.

Spellings will be set weekly; the children will have a week in which to practice. We recommend that children practice using the look-cover-write technique, as well as saying out loud.

It would be beneficial to practice number bonds at least three times a week. Number bonds are two number that add together to make another; for example 394+606, 8+2, 65+35.

We advise that the children need to practice their times tables regularly in order to support their knowledge and understanding when performing operations (times and divide).

This week for home learning, I have set the following Spellings:

Conscience

Ferocious

Judicial

Precious

Space

Unconscious

Conscious

Grace

Judicious

Precise

Spacious

Vice

Atrocious

Delicious

Gracious

Malicious

Precocious

Suspect

Vicious

Children should practice these spellings and put them into a sentence. If they are unaware of the meaning of any of these spellings, we encourage children to use  a dictionary to help them. This will also aid them into thinking about how the words are spelled. Please note, that the spellings are also available of Spellodrome for the children, it also helps them with the pronunciation of the word.

Another piece of homework I have set, is on Mathletics. Children are to log in and do the activities I have set. The activities are specific to what we have been focusing on during our learning in class. If the children are unable to access the internet, please bring a note into class explaining this and I will allocate a time slot for when they can complete this during school hours.

All homework is to be handed in on Friday 2nd of October.

Have a lovely weekend!
