Week ending 10.01.25

Dear Samos and Ydra

Happy NEW YEAR.

NEW YEAR brings NEW GOALS and NEW ACHIEVEMENTS.

Your first week back showed that you are very determined to achieve your new goals for this term.

In English we have started reading BEOWULF and we have discussed about the Anglo Saxons, their traditions and legends.

In Maths we have discussed about multiplication of 4 digit number with a 2 digit number and we have explored area models which can help us calculate more complicated multiplications.

In Science we discussed about our solar system and the theories of Ptolemy, Alhazen and Copernicus.

We will be using the link for your home learning from next week.

For this week you may find your homework here:

    Task 3 SCIENCE

You are required to research and write a short report on the different models of the solar system that have been proposed throughout history.

    Instructions:

    1. Identify Key Models
      • Research at least two historical models of the solar system.
      • Include the Geocentric Model and the Heliocentric Model as a minimum.
    2. Describe Each Model
      • Explain how each model represents the solar system.
      • Identify the key astronomers or scientists who developed or supported the model.
      • Mention the time period when each model was widely accepted.
    3. Compare and Contrast
      • Highlight the differences between the models.
      • Explain how scientific discoveries led to changes in our understanding of the solar system.
    4. Modern Understanding
      • Briefly describe the current model of the solar system.
      • Mention any recent discoveries that have improved our knowledge of space.
    5. Presentation Format
      • Your report should be one to two pages long or a detailed poster.
      • You can include diagrams or drawings to illustrate the models.
      • Use simple, clear language with the correct scientific vocabulary:
