Year 2 Week Ending 28.4.17

Welcome to Year 2!

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Easter holiday.

This week in Year 2

In our Literacy lessons we have started exploring the story of The Lonely Beast by Chris Judge. We have thought about what the beast looks like and how he moves, using adjectives and verbs in our descriptions. We have also written letters of advice to the beast and a diary entry as him explaining his journey to the sea. We will be reading the story over the next 2 weeks but we would like to keep the ending a surprise for them as we will be predicting and doing creative writing on our predictions.

In Numeracy we have been focusing on word problems. We have identified common words used in problems and which operation it is related to. We have also used our knowledge of adding, subtracting, timesing and dividing to solve a variety of word problems.

In R.E. this week, we been learning about why Jesus came to Earth for all people and what makes us special.

We have started our new topic this week ‘How can we be the next masterchef?’ which has a science focus. We have looked at the roles of chefs and how they prepare healthy menus.

For your writing task I would like you to write at least 7 questions that you would want to ask the beast in an interview. You need to include in your writing:-

  • Use of question words to begin with.
  • Ending each question with a question mark.
  • Read them through to make sure it makes sense.

Golden Challenge:- can you answer your questions as if you were the beast? Remember to use full sentences and use I as you are the beast.

I look forward to reading your questions and answers!

Reminders

Book Bags: Please ensure that the children bring their book bag to school every day, as in addition to being a means of transporting reading materials it is a valuable method of communication. We encourage the children to give important notes from their parents direct to their class teacher.

Uniform: Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Children will need their P.E. kits in school on a Wednesday for Crete Class and a Thursday for Santorini Class as these are our PE days. Please encourage children to be independent dressers at home, as these skills will be helpful at school.

Reading: We change the children’s reading books daily, so if they have finished their books please ensure that the children put their home reading record and reading book in the basket every morning to be changed. Please support your child with reading at home and record a comment in their reading record.

Phonics: The phonics scheme we follow is Read, Write Inc. Please read and practise your sounds and spellings with your child at home.
