Year 2 – Week Ending 8.9.17

Welcome to Year 2!

We trust that you had a lovely Summer Holiday and welcome to the start of the new school year!

This week in Year 2

We have spent the week settling back into school and our new classrooms.

In our Literacy lessons we have been exploring the story Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. We have predicted what might happen next in the story as well as creating questions we would like to ask the witch. We finished the week by writing a letter to the witch with our questions in it.

In Numeracy we have been exploring numbers.  We have been practising writing our numbers to 100 in words and figures. We have also been exploring how to partition two digit numbers into tens and ones.

Towards the end of the week we recapped on our knowledge of our number bonds to 10 and 20. We then used this information to help us solve missing number calculations.

In R.E. this week, we celebrated the feast of the birth of the Virgin Mary on the 8th September.

Home Learning Project

island homelearning 2017

Your Home Learning project is due in on Monday 25th September 2017.

Reminders

Book Bags: Please ensure that the children bring their book bag to school every day, as in addition to being a means of transporting reading materials it is a valuable method of communication. We encourage the children to give important notes from their parents direct to their class teacher.

Uniform: Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Please encourage children to be independent dressers at home, as these skills will be helpful at school.

Reading: We will be sending home reading books from Monday 11th September. We change the children’s reading books daily, so if they have finished their books please ensure that the children put their home reading record and reading book in the basket every morning to be changed. Please support your child with reading at home and record a comment in their reading record.

Phonics: The phonics scheme we follow is Read, Write Inc. Please read and practise your sounds and spellings with your child at home.
