Year 5 – Week ending 21.06.24
It was good to have all of year 5 back together again, after the residential trip.
This week, in English, we continued reading the class book ‘Treason’. In the lessons this week, the children looked closely at the author Berlie Doherty and how she uses language to engage readers.
Maths
The children developed an understanding of how coordinates change when points are translated. Then moved on to extended their knowledge of lines of symmetry including any line of symmetry in a 2-D shape. This unit finished with reflections for the first time, where the children began with looking at what it is and how it is different from translation.
The children then began a second unit on decimals, where the focus was on completing calculations with decimals. Firstly adding and subtracting decimals within 1 whole using known facts. Then finding complements to 1 for numbers with up to 3 decimal places. It was important for the children to see the links with number bonds to 10, 100 and 1,000.
Please continue to encourage your child to keep their timetable knowledge refreshed and to revise number bonds to 10, 100 and 1,000, as they are the foundation for many areas in maths.
