Welcome to Reception

Reception

When we return to school our new topic will be all about Dinosaurs. During half term we would like the children to research where dinosaurs lived and create a piece of work that shows what they have learnt. This piece of work could be a poster, a model or a piece of writing. Have a wonderful half term.

Last week we learnt about transport on the land, we read the book ‘naughty bus’ and the children enjoyed drawing and labeling their own maps. In literacy we used our sounds to describe what we saw when walking to school. I maths the children learnt the names of many 2D shapes including hexagon, pentagon and Octagon. We used these 2D  shapes to create pictures. We also described the properties of shapes e.g. how many sides they have.

In phonics, the children have been working very hard on building up their understanding of how different sounds come together to form words and how these can be used when writing.

If you would like to support your child at home please work on recognising and blending sounds to read words and also independent writing by segmenting words.

Please note

As the weather is cold please ensure that your child has a coat in school each day, as we go outside everyday.

  • A note to parents that next week will be investigations week and as part of a whole school project we will be building some sculptures from recycled materials, we would be very grateful if you could bring in any recyclable materials for us to use, e.g. Plastic bottles, empty cardboard boxes, containers etc. Please ensure that there are no  glass items and also that the packaging did not contain nuts as we have children with severe nut allergies and are a completely nut free school.
