Welcome to Year 5

Week Beginning 13th July

Hello Year 5!

We hope that you  have had a good week and are continuing to stay safe. There is only ONE WEEK LEFT OF YEAR 5!!

This year has been out of the ordinary but we will be returning to a sense of normality very soon.

If you haven’t already, make sure you watch the videos from your current teachers and your new teachers in the post below.

There is a task for you to complete on Purplemash. Follow this link to watch the video ‘Spy Fox’ https://www.literacyshed.com/spyfox.html. Use this video as inspiration to create a comic strip inspired by your very own ‘superhero’.

As it is the last week of term, here are some end of Year Assessments for you to consolidate all your learning from this year. Make sure you attempt all the questions and give yourself an allocated time if possible to complete each one. You can spread these out throughout the week.

500 Words: Black Lives Matter Competition

Hi everyone,

As you all probably know, there has been a lot of coverage in the news around the Black Lives Matter movement. We have come across an exciting opportunity to get involved through ‘500 Words: Black lives Matter’.

Your words have the power to change you and the world around you. People can make a change based on their actions – you’ll already have encountered examples of this.

We want you to use your imagination and draw on your own thoughts and experiences when it comes to Black Lives Matter and some of the changes we are seeing in 2020. Then, write a creative short story in no more than 500 words.

Simply go to https://500words.me/ to find out more and how to enter.

This exciting opportunity is only availble until tomorrow evening unfortunately, so you haven’t got a lot of time to get your stories written but we know you can do it!

Happy writing!

Week Beginning 29th June 2020

Good Morning Year 5!

We hope that you have had a wonderful week and enjoyed the sun !

This week you’ll be completing a writing task on Purple Mash. Follow this link to watch the video ‘Francis’ https://www.literacyshed.com/the-ghostly-shed.html

You will need to watch the video and describe the ‘boat scene’ using fronted adverbials, lots of description and imagery and show don’t tell  e.g. rather than saying she was scared, you could say ‘she felt herself breathing heavily as her heart was jumping out of her chest’.

On Mathletics, you have some multiplication and division tasks to complete

Week Beginning 8th June 2020

Good Morning Year 5,

I hope that you are all well and are staying safe and busy.

As you may be aware from the news, there have been numerous protests across the world in light of the death of George Floyd. The Black Lives Matter campaign, founded in 2013, has lead the movement in response to the injustice experienced by black people in America. As a result of this, many countries across the world have also protested to stand in solidarity. I have inserted some pages below from a colouring book that focuses on some of the Black Lives Matter principles including Diversity, Empathy and Collective Values. I hope you feel empowered colouring these in and expressing your thoughts.
