Zakynthos Class Home Learning – Week ending 28.11.25
Dear Parents, Carers,
In English this week we started a new unit called Non-Chronological Report focusing on a book titled ‘Incredible Jobs’. The children looked at various types of jobs, and looked at the features of a Non-Chronological Report and had the opportunity to discuss and plan their own dream job.
In Maths,we continued with our new unit ’Multiplication and Division’. The steps that we focused on for this week were ‘Sharing and grouping’, ‘Multiply by 3’, ‘Divide by’ and ‘Multiply by 4’.
In RE, the children had the opportunity to go and visit St. Constantine and St. Helen Church, in Crystal Palace and were fantastic at sitting still for over an hour and focused on what was happening. It was the Feast Day of Saint Katherine and Father George talked about her Christian life, how St Katherine impacted people’s lives and because of her belief and faith in God, so many people became a Christian.
In Science, we continued with the unit Forces and Magnets. We talked about how friction is caused by two surfaces rubbing together. The children rubbed their palms together for 30 seconds to feel the friction caused by the rubbing surfaces. Then they shared what they noticed about their hands when rubbing them together (they became warm). They threw a pencil into the air to experience that friction can change an object. I demonstrated rolling a ball along the floor and asked the children to think about the forces acting on the ball and asked them questions such as: ‘Does the ball slow down and stop because it has run out of force? (No.) and ‘Why does the ball slow down? (A force slows the ball down).
