Zakynthos Home Learning – Week Ending 07.11.25

Dear Parents, Carers,

This week in English, the children have started a new unit called, ‘Fables’ and we looked at two fable stories, ‘The Lost Lion’ and ‘The Koala Who Could’.  We talked about how fables are special stories, they often have animals who talk and act like people and the main character helps us learn a lesson, called a moral.  The children looked at the setting, characters and in pairs, acted out describing a character feeling very scared when confronting a lion, nose to nose.

In Maths, the children have been consolidating subtracting a 3-digit number from a 3-digit number with an exchange, either the tens or the hundreds.

In Science the children started a new unit, ‘Forces and Space: Forces and Magnets’. The first lesson was focused on the effects of contact forces. They started off recalling ways of using forces to change the shape of materials such as Stretching, Squashing, Rolling, Bending and Twisting. They then had a challenge to work in pairs to move a ball using as many different actions as possible (for example, roll, flick, throw, kick, drop, bounce, spin, blow, suck and waft) and recorded each new action on their whiteboard.

In RE, we continued with our unit ‘Love At Home’ and had a looked at how icons show our love to God and we started to look at how Jesus wants us to forgive one another, which we will continue next week.

Please find the home learning attached using the link below and we have also included a spelling sheet as extra support.
