Transport

Happy new year to your all!!

This week we have:

Started our topic transport. We read the story ‘we all go travelling by’ this is also in the children’s rhyme books this week. the book focused on transport you find in the sky, on the land and in the water. we will be focusing on each area one at a time over the next few weeks. We have been exploring land transport on the carpet area and water transport in the water tray. We have also been making our own transport using different materials.

In maths this week we have been sorting transport items into groups. We sorted them by transport modes and by colours. We then counted how many we had and which one had the most. We have been comparing more and less.

In RE this week we have been learning about theophany, Saint Basil. We read a story about Saint Basil and Mrs Herne made us some vasilopita cakes, we took these home on Friday! We wonder who received the lucky coin.  We have been making our own vasilopita cakes using cake cases, coins and wet sand in the sand tray. We also collaged a picture of Saint Basil.

This week we re-visited road safety, we have been thinking about how we stay safe when we are next to the road. We need to remember to stop, look and listen before we cross the road. We need to use the zebra crossing, hold hands with our grown-ups and if we are in the car we must wear a seatbelt.

Next week we will be:

  • Transport you find in the sky, reading the story ‘Whatever Next’.
  • How God made the world focusing on the sky.
  • Continuing our learning on 2-D shapes.
  • Learning the number 12 using number blocks.
  • Exploring magnets and what they do.

Messages home

  • Please ensure the children are changing their books regularly, it is very important for the children’s development.
  • Please ensure that the children are doing their home learning sheets and please bring them in so we can share what they have been doing at home.
  • We will be sending home proud cloud sheets, please cut them out and let us know what the children have been up to at home that you are proud of. One at a time would be better so we can celebrate each proud moment at a time.

Thank you for your support Mrs Herne and Mrs Cini
