I currently work as a management consultant specialising in the building of collaborative working relationships between client and contractors across the civil engineering and construction sectors. My working background includes roles as Operational Director, Engineering Director and Health & Safety Director with leading contractors in the railway industry.

I am an Appointed Governor and Chair of Governors at St Cyprian's. I am pleased to be able to serve as a governor in this Greek Orthodox Primary Academy. I began supporting the school when my children joined reception at St. Cyprian’s in 2012. I have lived in Croydon for over 50 years, and I maintain my involvement with the school in order to play a part in the successful education of children here in Thornton Heath.

My personal interests include singing church choral music, cycling and gardening. I am married and have children at secondary school in Croydon. I am a church warden at St. Mary’s, Sanderstead.

I have been involved with St Cyprian’s since it opened in 2000. Both my children have attended here from Reception to Year 6. They have been extremely happy and are achieving their goals.

I feel passionately about the ethos of the school. Education is our future and being part of the Governing Body for St Cyprian’s gives me the opportunity to advocate excellence in our school.

I work as a Senior Human Resources professional and have done so for the last 15 years in both the Private and Public sector in various organisations ranging from local authorities, NGO’s and Transport.

Philip Prodromou

Philip Prodromou

I have been a Foundation governor at St Cyprians Greek Orthodox Primary Academy for several years.

My aim in this very important and privileged role is to govern in a way to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for our children to learn, partnered with a stable and secure future for our school. I am very proud to be part of this school that has gone from strength to strength due to its commitment to continual improvement.

I currently hold the position of chair at Bishop Christophoros Greek School and am an active committee member of St Mays Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Camberwell.

I am a proud father of two adopted children who have both successfully attended St Cyprians from reception to year 6.

I am currently a senior customer service engineer in the security industry and have worked in the electronics industry now for 35 years. Other roles during this period include ISO and BSI policy manager, Field engineer team leader and Technical specialist. Customer satisfaction is a requirement not an option.

I am a keen and competitive sportsman and regularly take part in 10km running events to raise money for charities including Cancer research UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Pancreatic Cancer UK and Rett UK.

Being and working as a teacher in St Cyprian’s Greek Orthodox Primary Academy is one of the most important journeys of my life. I discovered our school even before I decide to reside in the UK in 2014. Our school was the first choice for me when I was looking for schools for my daughter, as I thought it is very important for her to attend a school which follows our Greek Orthodox Faith and promotes Greek language and culture.

My previous working experience in public relations and marketing, as well as, my position as a PA in important private and public institutions has enabled me to achieve significant financial support for our school from private donors and cultural institutions in the UK and in Greece. I am proud of creating international links and I will continue to work hard so that these links will cement the school’s legacy in the years to come.

My vision is to work with all my colleagues to help drive the continued improvement needed to provide our children with the best chance of success. Moreover, supporting the wellbeing and safety of the children and of my colleagues is a priority for me.

I strongly believe that what counts in life is what difference we have made to the lives of others. When it comes to children’s lives this determines the significance of the life we live.

I was elected as one of the parent governors of St Cyprian Greek Orthodox Academy in 2016. Born and raised in Nigeria where I obtained a degree in English Language and Literary Studies.

As a student I was in the drama and poetry club, I served as the vice president. I won an award as the best stage actress as acting was and still one of my passions. On completion of my degree,

I worked as a producer/presenter in Television station. Later got a job as a proofreader in a Newspaper company. I have taken various responsibilities involving welfare and organisation in all of the places I had worked. My main drive in life is to work with people especially children and youth.

And I would give back to this great school my wealth of experience as I am very proud to be part of this family. I am happily married and I have three children who are also pupils of this school. I currently work as an administrative secretary at NEOS Global Investment. My hobbies are reading, writing, dancing and acting.

Sophia Tsoukkas

I am a Parent Governor at St Cyprian’s, having been elected by the parents of the Academy in 2016.  I enjoy participating in the affairs of the Governing Body and hope to continue to assist the Academy in maintaining its high standards.

I am married and have son and daughter who both attend St Cyprian’s.

Sophie Tsoukkas

By way of background, I qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and practised until I went on maternity leave. I specialised in family law and represented clients in various proceedings including divorce, domestic violence, care proceedings and child abduction. My job required me to advocate regularly on behalf of clients in all courts ranging from the Principal Registry of the Family Division right up to the High Court of Justice.

I am currently enjoying my time as a housewife: this career break has enabled me to partake in voluntary activities for the community, the Academy and various other charities.

Within the school, I am responsible for the fundraising events by FOSC.  I use my advocacy skills to persuade and encourage other parents to commit their time to helping out at events, as this would mean more funding for the Academy and more resources for the children.

I regularly fundraise for cancer charities as this is a cause I hold close to my heart. Heading the team on our latest fundraiser campaign, we successfully raised almost £4,200 for Cancer Research UK.  Great fun was had by all participating in the Pretty Muddy 5k run whilst allowing us to reflect on those loved, lost and those continuing in their battle with cancer.

I am proud to be part of an Academy that provides such a high quality of education whilst nurturing, supporting and accommodating each and every child in their individual capacity to enable them to succeed and flourish individually and as part of the St Cyprian’s family.

My family and I are all practicing members of the Greek Orthodox Church and our faith is of important to us.  I consider it a privilege that my children have the opportunity of understanding their cultural heritage and religion in their daily life at the Academy.

My passion for education and helping children and young people to achieve their potential is reflected in every facet of my life and with a background in education; I taught Citizenship and Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) for several years in a secondary school in the West Midlands. I pursued my passion further in education by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. After teaching to maintain my connection with children and young people, I went on to  pursue a career within the local authority as a Commissioner within both Children’s Services. For the past 9 years I’ve worked for several local authorities within London procuring and monitoring the performance of support services for children, young people, and their families.

As a committed Christian I play an active role  in my local church where I serve as a marriage counsellor and a cell group leader.

I was elected as a parent governor in November 2020. I fundamentally believe the education of our children in the early and formative years is important and that every child deserves the best education we can offer to fulfil their potential and lifelong aspirations.  As a parent with two children attending St. Cyprian’s, I have a vested interest in ensuring that the school continues to provide an excellent and well-rounded education for the benefit of all current and future pupils.

Professional and Personal Profile:

Anna Hawkins

Anna Hawkins

A skilled and creative Sales and Marketing Director, with over 30 years experience in business-to-business sales, marketing and project management. Possesses a proven track record in generating new business. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse range of people, and has excellent public speaking and presentation skills.  Builds strong client relationships, and is able to manage client accounts to meet their expectations.

Apart from my considerable business experience over many years - I have engaged in community activity and served on Croydon Council as an elected ward Councillor for 16 years dealing with constituency work – mainly planning, social and housing issues – I took a close and personal interest in education, including the promotion and retention of Croydon’s special schools. Being of Greek origin my personal interest was to lead a team to use a redundant Croydon school building (St Cyprians) as a voluntary aided Greek Orthodox primary school. There had been for many years a strong Greek Orthodox community (mainly from Cyprus) in Croydon and the surrounding area, and evidence of this has been the taking over of a redundant church in Upper Norwood to serve as a community centre and place of worship (Saints Constantine and Helen in Westow Street).

The school project had many obstacles to overcome, and was breaking new ground because at the time it was the only Greek Orthodox primary school in the United Kingdom, and the promotion team needed to get the financial support of the Archdiocese (both in London and in Cyprus) and the agreement of the local council to release the redundant building and agree to voluntary aided status. The formal approval of the then Department of Education and Science in Whitehall also had to be obtained.  I organized and took part in a number of meetings of the Cypriot community, officers of the council together with Whitehall officials and the media. I went to Cyprus on three occasions to seek financial and other support. The school (St Cyprian’s) was finally opened, and is proving to be popular not just among the Greek Orthodox community but also among the local community. It is now regarded as a successful school, and is oversubscribed. I have served on its Governing Body since it opened in 2000 and currently serve on the Personnel & Pay and Audit committees with a link role in marketing the Academy.

I am very proud that Cyprus has made history in our British Education system and how the School has developed and performed over the years to date.

In 2006 the London Borough of Croydon awarded me the distinguished Roll of Honorary Alderman in  recognition of long and valued public service as an elected Councillor.

Family and Interests:

Married to Ken and have lived in Croydon for 37 years.

Love going to theatre, swimming, snorkeling and retail therapy in the name of research!

What other people say:
