Traditional tales

This week we have been:

Reading the traditional tale ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We have been watching videos and listening to songs about ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We have made a very large beanstalk for our display and we have been making cow and chicken masks. This week we have also been writing letters to the giant from Jack to say sorry for going into his home and taking his things.

In maths this week we have been thinking about the length and size of beanstalks. We have been measuring them and using the words long and short. We have been trying to make our own beanstalks go from the ground and reach up into the clouds! We did this in the water tray using cubes and in the maths area.

This week we have been learning about God’s friends. We went to the hall and we found all the icons in the hall that had pictures of Gods friends. We suck them onto a large piece of paper and drew pictures of ourselves on the paper. This picture showed us that God loves us and his friends love us too.

As we were learning about Jack and the Beanstalk this week we took the opportunity to try and grow our own beanstalks! We have put some beans in a bag with some water and we are going to hopefully watch them grow. We also watched Kit and Pup explain to us how flowers grow. We read a story called ‘The Tiny seed’. It explained how a seed from a flower can grow from the ground and then the seeds from that flower will grow again, we made our own tiny seed paintings!

We have been learning about stranger danger this week. We know that a stranger is someone that we do not know, we have also spoke about who safer strangers are in case we get into trouble when we are outside. We know that if we need help we should find someone that we trust, someone who is in uniform and wears a badge.

You may have noticed that we have been growing butterflies! We received the butterflies when they were eggs, they turned into a caterpillar and then they turned into a cocoon and now they have transformed into butterflies! We let the butterflies go into the world this week and we watched them fly away, we all know the life cycle of a butterfly.

Next week we will be:

  • Exploring all areas with the Tiger who came to tea.
  • Learning about the Good Samaritan.
  • Celebrating traditional tales with our traditional tales day picnic, this is on Wednesday 21st May.

Messages home

Wednesday 21st May will be our traditional tale day. We hope the children are able to come to school dressed as a traditional tale character. We will be enjoying a picnic together!
