Ourselves

This week we have been:

Learning about Black history by reading the story ‘Dream big little leader’. We have been making statues like Augusta, designing artwork like Alma and when we went to the hall for PE we were pretending to be Wilma and Tessa. We also played a song called ‘You’ve got that power’ and the children understand that you need the power to do the best you can.

In maths this week we have been learning the number five. We have also been learning about the one penny coin. We have been counting how many pennies we have and we have been making lines of coins and seeing who has the longest line.

In RE this week we read the story ‘Feeding the 5000’. Jesus had two fish and five loaves and he managed to feed thousands of people with such little food. We shared out our fish and loaves and we had lots of food left over! We have also read the story ‘Where is Buddha?’ We have been thinking about Buddhism and who Buddhists believe in. We spoke about Jesus being our God and the Buddha being a Buddhists God. We also coloured some pictures of Buddha.

In science this week we have been thinking about floating and sinking. We use Kit and Pup to explore what floating and sinking was and then we had ago ourselves in the water tray. Please explore floating and sinking at home maybe when the children are in the bath!

After half term we will be:

  • Learning about the people that help us.
  • We will be singing the ‘Wheels on the bus’ and ‘Old Macdonald had a farm’.
  • Learning about 2-D shapes and the number 6 using Number blocks.
  • Learning about the church, lighting a candle and taking communion.

Messages Home

I am very sorry about the cancellation of our parent consultations on Wednesday, these will be rescheduled for after half term, I am really looking forward to meeting all of you.

After the half term I will be sending home weekly homework sheets for the children. All of the children are currently working on their fine motor skills and how to hold a pencil so this is what our homework will be focusing on. A big part of the children’s fine motor skill development is playing with small objects. For example using small blocks, playing with lego, putting money in a money box, threading beads, clipping paper clips together, popping bubble wrap and scrunching paper. It would be great if you could encourage this at home. We will be sending home a small tub of play-dough with a sheet of skills the children can do. This will really help to strengthen those fine motor skills.

Thank you for your support Mrs Herne  and Mrs Cini
