People who help us – firefighters

This week we have been

Learning about firefighters. We have been reading stories and looking at non-fiction books about firefighters. We have been role-playing being a firefighter and acting out being a firefighter using our small world fire station. The children have been drawing their own fire engines using simple shapes. We had lots of fun in the water tray this week using the soap pumps to squirt water at the fire that was in our princess house!

Our rhyme this week was Jack and Jill. Not many of the children knew the rhyme Jack and Jill so we used Jack and Jill in different ways. We read the song, we sang the song and we also played instruments to this song during our music lesson. We hope that you enjoy singing the song at home.

In maths this week we have been exploring long and short. We have been using the fire engines and comparing which ones are longer and which ones are shorter. We have also been looking at different ways of sorting objects, we sorted fire engines by colour. We have also been learning the number nine.

In RE this week we have been learning about the holy communion that people take in church. The children know that the wine is Jesus’s blood and the bread is Jesus’s body. We role-played having bread and wine when we are in church, we did the sign of the cross first and then we took the holy communion. (Please note we used juice and bread!)

During our bucket time this week we were exploring shaving foam. The children had a lot of fun in the water tray exploring shaving foam!

The children may have come home singing Christmas songs this week. We have been focusing on our nativity and we really hope the children are enjoying singing the songs to you at home. You would have had a letter home this week explaining that our nativity will be on the Friday 13th of December at around 9:30. We would like the children to come dressed to school in plain black for the day, we are going to sparkle up the children and make them into stars.

Next week we will be

  • Learning about the police service.
  • Learning the number 10.
  • Matching numbers and counting using legs.
  • Learning about lighting a candle in church.
  • Being safe online.

Please ensure that the children’s green rhyme books are returned to school by Wednesday. This will ensure we can get them ready for Friday.

Thank you for your support Mrs Herne  and Mrs Cini.
