People who help us – Police services

This week we have been

Learning about the police service. We have been reading stories and exploring non-fiction books all about the police. We have also been acting as police officers and helping to save people. We made our own jail the children dressed up as police officers and we even had handcuffs! The children enjoyed drawing pictures of police officers and building their own police officer pictures. We have bee talking about what a police officer needs to do his job.

In maths this week we read a story called ‘one is a snail and 10 is a crab’ it’s a counting Legs story. The children were able to count to 10 using the pictures in the book to help them. We were also talking about 10 and 10 making 20. This week we have also been learning about the number 10 using the number-blocks.

As we were learning about the police service this week we were also thinking about light and dark. We spoke about the kind of jobs the policeman have to do when it’s light and when it’s dark. We explored the torches in a dark area and we made light and dark colours on the creative table.

This week in RE we were learning about why we light candles when we go to church and when we do our prayers in school. We know now that it’s so that Jesus knows that we are speaking to him and that we are thinking about him. The children made their own candles using card rolls and tissue paper.

Next week we will be

  • Starting our Christmas celebrations.
  • Learning the real reason for Christmas by reading and exploring the Nativity story in all areas of the classroom.
  • We will be reviewing numbers one to 10.
  • Focusing on fine motor skills activities.

Messages Home

Please ensure that the children are bringing their reading books, their home learning and their rhyme books back to school. We love to celebrate the children’s learning and it’s very important for the children that they continue to do these every week when we send them home.

Just a reminder on Friday the 13th will be our Early years nativity. The children would love for you to come and watch them join in with the celebrations. Can we ask that the children come to school wearing black for the day.

Thank you for your support, Mrs Herne and Mrs Cini
