Dinosaurs

This week we have been:

Learning about what dinosaurs get up to when it’s dark. We read the story ‘Dinosaurs after dark’, we explored the dark area and role-played what dinosaurs would be doing in the dark. We then explored nocturnal animals and spoke about things that  humans do at night and what they do during the day. Our dinosaur this week was the pterodactyl, we have been making our own pterodactyls and we learnt the next part of our dinosaur song.

We celebrated world book day this week, the children came to school dressed as their favourite book characters and some of our parents came in and read with us too.

In maths this week we explored ‘anything can be counted’. We counted items on the board and then we went round the classroom and counted lots of different items, we wrote the numbers down and stuck them into the items.

In science this week we explored light and dark, we watched kit and pup explain what light and dark was and we explored light and dark using torches in our own dark area to try and spot the nocturnal animals, we then made shadows using our torches! We have also been exploring how to make a rainbow.

In our RE this week we continued and learning about Clean Monday. We learnt about Lady lent, she has got seven legs which will help us to countdown to the Easter celebrations. We also went outside and flew our kites and on Tuesday we celebrated the start of Lent by making pancakes they were very yummy.

We re-visited our road safety learning this week. We know that when we are near the road we need to stop, look and listen before we cross the road, we use the zebra crossing and we hold hands. We read a story called ‘Surprise trip to Battersea’, it was about a little boy who took a walk to Battersea Park so that he could adopt a dog, he had to hold hands and he had to watch the traffic when he was on his journey.

Next week we will be:

  • Learning about dinosaur eggs and exploring animals that come from eggs
  • counting using eggs
  • Learning about baptism
  • Revisiting being safe when we are online

Messages home

We have had a lot more homework being returned to school, thank you for this. It really means a lot to the children when we get the chance to celebrate their learning from home.

Thank you for your support Mrs Herne, Mrs Cini and Mrs Woode
