Ithaca Class week ending 07.03.25
This week in Ithaca…
In English, the children continued to build on their holiday brochure. The children were able to write a guide overview using evocative language in the heading, including rhetorical questions and a chatty response. The children also used positive verbs and emotive vocabulary in their guide overview to describe the location and grab the reader’s attention. Furthermore, the children included similes, imperative verbs to entice the reader and testimonials to persuade.
In Maths, the children developed their knowledge in fractions greater than 1. The children explored these as mixed numbers and improper fractions. Furthermore, the children were able to convert a mixed number into an improper fraction and also from improper fractions to mixed numbers.
In Science, the children focused on recognising how electrical appliances are powered, constructing an electrical circuit and explaining the use of switches in a circuit. The children were able to identify if something is an electrical appliance or not, classify an electrical appliance as mains or battery-powered and identify components in a circuit. Additionally, the children were able to explain how a switch works and why they are useful.
