Ithaca Class week ending 14.03.25
This week in Ithaca…
In English, the children were able to retrieve and record information from non-fiction texts. The children used skimming skills to find the keywords and summarise information gathered. The children considered the features of an explanation text, identified these features and explained the purpose of each feature. Furthermore, the children identified the target audience for an explanation text, explained the purpose and discussed their target audience.
In Maths, the children used number lines to find equivalent fractions within 1 and numbers beyond 1. The children looked at fractions that are in line with each other (equal in value), rather than using more abstract methods of multiplicative reasoning. Additionally, the children developed their understanding of equivalent fractions, both within 1 and greater than 1, mainly through exploring bar models and were able to add two or more fractions with the same denominator.
In Science, the children focused on the use of materials as electrical conductors or insulators and investigated what affects bulb brightness. The children were able to predict which groups of materials are good electrical conductors or insulators and tested these materials to collect data and write their conclusions. Furthermore, the children described how the number of bulbs in a series circuit affects bulb brightness and explained why bulb brightness is affected by the number of bulbs.
