Ithaca Class week ending 21.03.25

This week in Ithaca…

In English, the children were able to plan the main sections for their explanation text, write a draft and edit using their plan effectively and publish their explanation text. The children were able to write simple sentences for their plan and add relevant expanded noun phrases, subordinating conjunctions and fronted adverbials. Furthermore, the children referred to their plan to support their ideas, began to adjust their ideas, as they wrote each section and proofread their draft. Furthermore, the children were able to decide on the final format of their explanation text and carefully write their published piece.

In Maths, the children continued to explore the topic of fractions through subtracting two fractions with the same denominator. The children were able to realise that when the denominators are the same, they need to subtract the numerators. Additionally, the children made links between subtracting fractions and subtracting mixed numbers and fractions. The children considered how many equal parts are equivalent to the whole and how this relates to whole numbers greater than 1.

In Geography, the children focused on describing how land use in the local area has changed, recognised human and physical features in New Delhi and stated some similarities and differences between features in New Delhi and their local area. The children were able to locate some of the geographical regions of the UK and identify and discuss how and why land use in their local area has changed.
