Ithaca Class week ending 28.02.25

This week in Ithaca…

In English, the children were introduced to holiday brochure jigsaw shapes. The children were able to pair sentences with the associated shapes to construct a complete holiday brochure. Furthermore, the children used ipads to research information about their local area, plan and made notes about their local area and used persuasive language to make their holiday brochure engaging to the reader.

In Maths, the children develop their knowledge in part-whole relationship of fractions. The children used diagrams to identify how many equal parts a shape had been split into and moved on to thinking about how many more parts are needed to make the whole. Furthermore, the children used the denominator to identify how many equal parts a whole has been divided into and explored fractions greater than 1.

In Geography, the children focused on settlements. The children were able to describe different types of settlements, identify the human and physical features in the local area and locate some cities in the UK. Furthermore, the children created a simple key to show land use on a map and used compass directions to describe the location of features on a map.
