Ithaca Class week ending 28.03.25
This week in Ithaca…
In Computing, the children learnt about computational thinking and explored how the four strands that make up computational thinking is used to solve a problem. The children were able to recall that problems can be made easier if they use computational thinking, discuss what the terms decomposition, pattern recognition abstraction mean and how these terms are applied to solve problems. Furthermore, the children were able to use past experiences to understand how to solve new problems, abstract key information, understand how to create an algorithm and use their algorithm to write a script using Scratch.
In Design and Technology, the children identified the features, benefits and disadvantages of a range of equipment used for their light-up card, wrote a design criteria and used a template to design an A5 light-up card that satisfied the criteria. The children considered what their light-up card would look like, the equipment needed and how they would make the light-up card. Additionally, the children assembled their light-up card using the skills of making a basic electrical circuit. Furthermore, the children evaluated their final product considering how they made the light-up card work, the advantages and disadvantages and how they could improve on their final product.
In Religious Education, the children explored the concept of knowing that God can surprise us and understanding that God can fulfill our hopes. The children identified the joy that Jesus brought people and were able to present life examples that show that we should never lose faith. Furthermore, the children identified the message in the events of Palm Sunday and were able to connect with the joy of this event and bring it into their present life.
