Year 5, week ending 03.10.25

This week…

In English, we started our new unit, writing to entertain. In this unit, we will focus on setting descriptions. Our core text is ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’ by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham and Illustrated by Juan Wijngaard.

Over the week, we took a close look at the authors use of figurative language and began to experiment with these devices in descriptive writing.

In Maths, we started a unit on addition and subtraction. This week we used mental strategies, rounding and column method to solve calculations with 4 or more digits.

In RE, we focused on the feast day for our school Patron Saint St Cyprian. We also looked at living the liturgy everyday.

In Science, we explored the process of filtering, this was a very engaging lesson that took us out in the playground to find materials to create a filter.
