Year 5, week ending 06.02.26

English

This week, we planned our non chronological reports and began to write the draft. We focused on the following language features; fronted adverbials, use of commas to clarify meaning or avoid ambiguity  and parenthesis. Next week we complete our drafts, before proofreading and editing. The last step will be to publish the report, including labelled diagrams and a glossary.

Maths

This week in our unit on fractions, we focused on multiplying unit fractions, non unit fractions and mixed numbers by an integer (whole number). We used various models, such as whole-part models, to support our mathematical thinking.

RE

This week, we learnt about different Christian denominations and we also focused on the feast day of the presentation of the Lord.

Science

In this week’s lesson, we explored models that show how the rotation of the Earth causes day and night and the tilt and orbit causes the seasons.
