Year 5, week ending 14.11.25
English
This week, we started a new narrative unit based on the book ‘The Promise’ by Nicola Davies. Over the week, we explored the author’s use of similes, metaphors and personification to write an engaging story. We ended the week, writing descriptive sentences in the style of Nicola Davies.
Maths
This week, we started a unit on fractions; finding fractions equivalent to a unit fraction, finding fractions equivalent to a non-unit fraction, recognising equivalent fractions and convert improper fractions to mixed numbers.
RE
This week, the children explored how the Old Testament is the promise of Christ. We also focused on the feast day of St Nektarios.
Science
In this week’s lesson, we explored transparency and uses of various materials and developing the working scientifically skill of drawing a results table.
Next week…
Maths – Unit on fractions; converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, comparing fractions less than 1, ordering fractions less than 1 and comparing and order fractions greater than 1.
English – creating a character, planning a story in similar to ‘The Promise’ and starting the draft.
