Zakynthos Class Home Learning – Week Ending 10.07.26

Dear Parents, Carers

This week in English, the children started a new unit called Non-Chronological Report unit featuring ‘A Year Full of Celebrations and Festivals’, by Claire Grace. We first looked at the front cover of the book and the children talked about what they saw and had to identify the features of the genre, and establish the purpose and audience of the core text. They also had to edit and improve a Non-Chronological Report example, where they had to add a title, subheadings, and expanded noun phrases.

In Maths, they children focused on arithmetic and reasoning questions.

In RE, the children’s lesson was about exploring special objects used in Jewish worship. We looked at various items that the Jewish people, especially the men used when they pray, such as  wearing special clothes, a Tallit (a fringed shawl worn on the shoulders), and a Kippah (a small cap worn to show respect, also called a Capel). The Tallit has special tassels called tzitzit and there  are 613 tassels in total and it reminds the Jewish people of the 613 Commandments (laws or Mitzvot) in the Torah, given by God.

We have completed all the spellings for Year 3, on Edshed is a revision list of words.
