Zakynthos Class Home Learning – Week Ending 19.06.26
Dear Parents, Carers,
Careers Week at School
This week, we had an exciting and inspiring Careers Week at school. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about a variety of jobs and begin to think about their own futures.
We were very lucky to welcome several parents and visitors who kindly gave up their time to come in and talk about their careers. They shared what their jobs involve, the skills they use every day, and the different paths they took to get there. The children were fascinated to hear about such a wide range of professions and asked lots of thoughtful questions. These sessions helped the children to understand how their learning in school connects to real-life careers. It also encouraged them to think about their interests, talents, and ambitions for the future.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and visitors who supported Careers Week. Your involvement made a real difference and helped make the week a memorable and inspiring experience for everyone.
This week in English, the children continued with the story of the Iron Man. They wrote a short re-telling of the ‘events on the hill’ in chapter 3, making use of prepositions and adverbs to tell the reader when, where and why events took place. The also began to plan their own plot and characters and alternate ending to ‘The Iron Man’, using the Rise, Fall, Rise technique and planned the key character and events to their ending of the Iron Man.
In Maths, we continued with ‘Shape’ and looked at ‘Measure and draw accurately’, ‘Horizontal and vertical’ and ‘Parallel and perpendicular’.
In Science, the children did an experiment to investigate and gather data on whether ‘Hand Span Affect Your Grip?’. They first had to draw around one hand and measure their own hand span. Next they were given a selection of fruits, ranging from grapes, apples, oranges to a cantaloupe melon and they had to wrap a piece of string around the widest part of the fruit. Then they had to cut the string where the ends meet, then lay it flat against a ruler, starting exactly at the 0cm mark. Lastly, they had to record the length in centimetres in their results table. The final part of the investigation will take place next week.
In RE, we focused on what pray is, how people communicated to God, different types of prayers and the different ways that people prayed.
Please find the home learning attached using the link below and we have also included a spelling sheet as extra support.
