Zakynthos Class – Week Ending 03.10.25

Good afternoon Parents and Carers,

This week in English, we started a new unit, Poetry. The children focused on a Free Verse poem called ‘The Magic Box’. They worked in groups of three’s, we looked at the poem together and the children had to find, identify and underline the poetic devices used and the features of  a free verse poem. They then had to make their own poem called ‘Nature’, but first they had to discuss the things that they would see, hear, touch and smell during the Autumn season, so that these items can be placed in their Magic Box.

In Maths, we started a new unit, Addition and Subtraction’. The children focused on Apply number bonds within 10,  Add and subtract 1s, Add and subtract 10s,  Add and subtract 100s, and Spot the pattern.

In Science, the children learnt about how muscles are used for movement, different types of muscles and about Prosthetics. They then had the opportunity to make their own model hand with working muscles so that could visualise first-hand how the pulling of a tendon causes the bone to move and how muscles change shape to cause a movement.

In RE, we celebrated St Cyprians day. They learnt about the life of St Cyprians and how he became a saint. We also had a special whole school assembly about his life and about Cyprus independence day (1st October), which takes place the day before St Cyprian’s day (2nd October).

Please find the home learning attached using the link below and we have also included a spelling sheet as extra support.
