Zakynthos Class – Week Ending 19.09.25
Hello Parents and Carers,
This week in English, the children focused on writing a setting description using sound and other senses to develop a clear picture for the reader using show, not tell. They also had to write a description of how MR was feeling when he realises he was lost and is in danger, using subordinating conjunctions to explain to the reader why he is feeling this particular way. Next we looked at different narrative endings, then the children wrote their own ending, ensuring that the reader is left feeling surprised but happy, using a range of co-ordinating conjunctions to connect ideas for the reader.
In Maths, we continued with Place Value and focused on Partition numbers to 1,000, Flexible partitioning of numbers to 1,000, Hundreds, tens and ones, Find 1, 10 or 100 more or less and using a Number line to 1,000.
In Science, we looked the role of the skeleton. We started off with the children imaging and drawing what humans would look like without a skeleton. As a whole class, the children had to group animals, based on whether they think they are vertebrates or invertebrates and also had to sort the invertebrate group into exoskeletons and no bony skeleton. We discussed the reason why we have bones, and that humans cannot live without bones because bones provide essential structure, protection for organs, and a framework for movement. Bones act as support, allowing us to stand upright, and muscles attach to bones to enable us to walk, run, and play.
In RE, we looked at a very significant and important feast called the ‘The Feast Day of the Nativity of the Theotokos’, of Our Most Holy Lady, the Virgin Mary. The children learnt The Nativity of the Theotokos, is one of the 12 greatest feasts of our church and how the Virgin Mary’s parents prayed and trusted God for a child, and God answered their prayer. Our second lesson was on the topic ‘To know that God gave us Jesus’. The children learnt about the life of Jesus and their task was to write a fact file about his life.
Please find the home learning attached using the link below and we have also included a spelling sheet as extra support.
