Zakynthos Class – Week Ending 21.03.25
Good afternoon Parents, Carers
This week in Zakynthos Class, for English, the children continued with the text Around the World in 80 Days, and focused on taking on the role of the character of Phileas Fogg. It was a hotseating, activity where they had to describe some of the places that Phileas had visited during his journey. The children enjoyed being in role and were confident in what they were saying. They also looked at different types of travel brochures and discussed the features of a good brochure and its purpose. The children had the opportunity to plan and write a travel blog in the role of Phileas Fogg.
In Maths, we continued and completed the Fractions unit. They focused on Partition the Whole, Unit fractions of a set of objects, Non-unit fractions of a set of objects and Reasoning with fractions of an amount.
In RE, the children looked at another faith Sikhism, focusing on their special Golden Temple and why the temple is so important to the Sikhs.
In Science, we continued with learning about electricity and the children had the opportunity to explore a circuit. They were given a selection of circuit cards to recreate each circuit and investigated whether the circuit worked or not and had to write their results. The children were excited and enjoyed the experience.
