Zakynthos Class – Week Ending 27.06.25
In English, the children had the opportunity to become creative writers, creating a magical fantasy world story. They first planned their story and had to include expanded noun phrases, the ‘Power of 3’ (3 similar adjectives grouped) prepositions, ‘show and not tell’ which is a technique where you describe a character’s feelings, thoughts, and actions through sensory details and actions instead of directly stating them and direct speech. Towards the end of the week, the children had to edit their work and then publish it. They really enjoyed creating their story being the great authors that they are.
In Maths, we finished the time unit with minutes and seconds, units of time and solving problems with time. We had to repeat time and duration as they found this challenging.
In RE, we focused on the Greek Orthodox Church respecting the Saints. The children had to choose a saint, annotate the icon, say why they had chosen that saint and what they have learnt from the life of that saint.
In Science, we looked at what was ‘viscosity’ (a measure of how runny a liquid is). They also looked at the relationship between viscosity and the flow of liquid the through scientific enquiry and gathered data on whether the viscosity of a liquid affects the speed of the flow by measuring accurately and recording their data in a table.

For handwriting we follow the Nelson scheme, it supports correct formation of letters and helps to keep cursive writing neat and legible.
Remember to keep working on times table knowledge and number bonds – the basis for the more complex mathematics.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the hot weather that is expected!
