Zakynthos Class
Dear Parents, Carers,
Welcome back to a New Term! I hope you all had a very happy and restful Easter Break, holiday.
This week in English, we started a new topic called ‘Persuasive Letters’ and will be looking at three books called ‘Clean UP’, ‘Look Up’ and ‘Speak Up’ by the same author Nathan Bryon. We started with looking at rhetorical questions using second person to persuade and talked how persuasive writing can include their opinions, in addition to factual information. They then had to write a short paragraph about something they were knowledgeable about, such as a favourite book, favourite game or a favourite animal, using opinion and facts to help give evidence to persuade a classmate to feel the same way about the topic.
In Maths, we continued with ‘Fractions’ part B and the children worked on adding and subtracting fractions, Partition the whole, Unit fractions of a set of objects and Non-unit fractions of a set of objects.
In Science, our new topic for this term is ‘Plants – Plants Reproduction’. Our first lesson was based on identifying the growth and survival needs of plants, recapping what plants need and answering questions about what can be tested or not.
In RE, we continued with our unit ‘We Believe Love Means Being Respectful’. The children learnt how our Church respects the saints and how God wants us to respect our world.
In PE, the children were happy and excited to learn about tennis and football and some boys were very excited to show off their skills.
Please find the home learning attached using the link below and we have also included a spelling sheet as extra support.
