The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week we have been:

Reading a story called ‘Butterfly Lullaby’. This story was all about too caterpillars. They looked different but they were the best of friends. They both turned into cocoons but they do not both turn into a butterfly. One turns into a butterfly and one turns into a moth! This week we focused on butterflies and moths when exploring symmetry. We have been painting symmetrical butterflies.

We have also been reading the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. The children really enjoyed listening the story and retelling the story using the puppets and wooden figures. We also made our own bridges so the goats could cross the river.

In maths we were thinking about symmetry and making symmetrical pictures. We know that the picture needs to be the same on both sides.

In phonics this week we have been learning the sounds p, g, o, c and k. We will continue thinking about these sounds next week. Your home learning this week are the sounds i, n and t. Can your practise writing these sounds?

We have been thinking about spring this week. We have been looking about what happens in springtime and what they can see around them. Please draw your spring pictures and bring them in.

Next week we will be:

  • Reading the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’
  • Reading stories that rhyme.
  • Learning the sounds u, b, f, e.
  • Measuring turnips.
  • Exploring up and down.
  • Learning about Sikhism.

We hope that you are enjoying reading your reading books with the children. Please ensure that the children are taking responsibility and looking after their reading books and remember you can change books as often as they like.
