Crete Class Week Ending 2.10.15

Welcome to Year 2 Crete Class!

This week in Crete Class

In our Literacy lessons we have been continuing to explore the features of instructions. At the beginning of the week we continued to focus on instructions within recipes and used these to help us create our own Monster dinner recipes! Towards the end of the week we looked at the animated tale of Thad goes to the moon and created instructions on how our favourite toy works.

In Numeracy we have been identifying odd and even numbers and continuing sequences of these. We have also been counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and continuing number sequences of these. Towards the end of the week we begun to measure different objects using rulers marked in cms.

Here are some links to interactive learning.

In R.E. this week, we have been celebrating the feast day of Saint Cyprian and Saint Justina on 2nd October. We enjoyed creating our own flowers to celebrate as well as booklets about the lives of Saint Cyprian and Saint Justina.

Homework

This year you will find your numeracy homework on the Mathletics website.

http://www.mathletics.co.uk/

You will also find your spellings by switching to the spellodrome part of the website.

Your username and password is stuck inside the cover of your yellow reading record.

Weekend Writing Challenge

As part of our preparation for the KS1 SATs the children will now be receiving a weekly weekend writing task.

For your writing challenge I would like you to write a set of instructions on how to play your favourite game. You need to include in your writing:-

  • A ‘You Will Need’ section
  • Numbered steps
  • Bossy verbs

I would like you to write at least a page for your instructions and I look forward to reading them!

Reminders

Book Bags: Please ensure that the children bring their book bag to school every day, as in addition to being a means of transporting reading materials it is a valuable method of communication. We encourage the children to give important notes from their parents direct to their class teacher.

Uniform: Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Children will need their P.E. kits in school on a Thursday and Friday as these are our PE days. Please encourage children to be independent dressers at home, as these skills will be helpful at school.

Reading: We change the children’s reading books daily, so if they have finished their books please ensure that the children put their home reading record and reading book in the basket every morning to be changed. Please support your child with reading at home and record a comment in their reading record.

Phonics: The phonics scheme we follow is Read, Write Inc. Please read and practise your sounds and spellings with your child at home.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to another fun filled week.
