Week ending 29.9.23

Hello Parents and Carers,

We hope you have all had a lovely week! This week in Maths we have been making comparisons and identifying less than, more than and equal to. In English, we have continued our focus on Folk Tales, and the story of the week has been Rama and Sita. The children have been retelling the story through direct speech and even recreated the story as a class! In Science we have looked at the changes that happen to the trees in each season and the children took on the role of scientist comparing and categorising different leaves.

In Geography the children learned about the continent of Europe and all the interesting landmarks that the worlds second smallest continent holds. In History, the children learned about the amazing life of Mary Seacole and how her work changed our society today as part of our Black History Month topic.

We will be sending phonics books home in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, children will be taking home a book from the library to read. We do not expect the children to read these independently as we know this is very far outside of their scope of capability right now, so please read this book with them.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Many thanks

Miss Rashti, Miss Weithers and all the Year 1 team
