Welcome to Year 6
It has been a productive week.
In Maths, the children have continued their learning with the four operations, looking deeper at long multiplication. We also have started mini arithmetic tests to check knowledge taught so far.
In English, we have begun to delve deeper into our narrative poem, The Highwayman, and the children wrote their own alternative ending, including rhymes, similes and metaphors.
In Science, we continued our learning on Living Things and looked into 4 groups within the invertebrate family, all children really enjoyed this!

Hello Year 6,
This week in English we have completed our autobiographies based on Katherine Johnson. Learning the key features of an autobiography along the way. We are now moving on to the poem ‘The Highway Man’.
In Maths, we have looked at common factors, multiples and the rules of divisibility. Helping to further develop our foundation of the four main function. We will continue with this, looking into long and short multiplication and division.
In Science, we had a trip to the science museum looking specifically at the space exhibit but also having the opportunity to explore, our modern world and medicine.

We have had a great week!
In Maths, we began our learning on the four operations and have added and subtracted plus refreshed our learning on factors.
In English, we are coming to the end of our book ‘Hidden Figures’ and have started writing our autobiographies as one of the main characters. The children have really enjoyed this book and have written diary entries, descriptive summaries and discussed the significance of the characters.
In Science, we continued our learning on vertebrates, focussing on warm-blooded living things.

This week we have continued to be incredibly productive. Developing our previous knowledge and learning a variety of new information.
In maths, we continued with place value. looking at rounding to millions and negative numbers.
In English, we have looked at developing our inferencing skills, through questions on our text and looked closely at descriptive language.
In Science, we started looking at cold-blooded vertebrates. Identifying features of reptile, fish and amphibians.

Welcome to Year 6!
We have had a productive start to the year. It has been lovely getting to know the children and begin preparing for the year ahead.
In Maths, we started our learning on place value and the children recapped how to read and write numbers to ten million.
In English, we have begun reading our text, Hidden Figures, looking closely at the life of Dorothy Vaughn. The children have enjoyed writing a diary entry and answering interview questions as Dorothy.
In Science, we started our learning on Living Things and Classification, specifically at the Linnaean System.

Please find your home work task on Purple mash. You will be writing a about some of the pros and cons of fair trade produce. You can research information about fair trade to help you with your arguments.
This can be completed online or in pink books.
There is also a maths activity set on Edshed.
