Welcome to Year 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have been enjoying the sun this week! We certainly have been in Year 1, it has been so lovely to have some outdoor learning.
In Maths, the children have started to learn about time, focusing first of the says of the week and the months.
In English, the children have begun to write a narrative in the style of ‘We’re going to find a monster’.
In Geography, we were using Atlas’s to locate different continents.
A quick reminder to everyone that in this warm weather, it is really important that children come to school with their water bottles and a cap to keep them safe in the sun. The caps to not have to be in school colours but please make sure names are in them to prevent them for getting lost.

This has been a very busy week for Year 1! The children took part in their Phonics Screening check, and all of the children should be very proud of their hard work.
In Maths, we have been learning about numbers to 100 and how to compare them.
In English, the children have been writing recipes.

This has been a great final week!
In Maths, the children have been learning about quarters of shapes and quantities.
In English, the children created their own life cycle about a bug of their own creation.
In History, we had a visit from Pollock’s Toy Museum and saw some toys from the past. The children then design a toy that they think might be around in the future.

This has been an extremely busy week!
In Maths, the children have had their first introduction to fractions and have been learning to halve shapes and quantities.
In English, we have been focusing on non-fiction writing structures.
In Science, we were investigating different seeds and how seeds grow into plants.

We have had a lovely week with the Science Fair and our workshop on cleaning our teeth!
In Maths, the children have been learning how to divide through grouping and sharing.
In English we wrote a story in the style of Hermelin, our book for the past two week. Next week, we will be focusing on poetry!
In History we were generating questions about toys from the past for a visitor we will be having at the end of the half term.

It has been lovely to be back after the half term!
In Maths the children have been starting their topic of multiplication, starting by learning their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
In English, the children have been exploring different writing types through the story of Hermelin: The Mouse Detective.
In History, the children have been talking about their favourite toys.

In Maths we have been continuing to look at measuring capacity and volume.
In RE we have been learning about Holy Week.
There will again not be writing Home Learning this week as there are no skills that the children are currently consolidating but I would encourage you to practice the children’s phonics sounds with them as the phonics screening is coming up soon.

It has been another busy week!
We went on an amazing trip to the South London Botanical Institute, the children had the best time becoming botanical investigators and artists! Thank you again for all of your support, these trips are so important to the children.
In Maths, the children have started to learn about mass and weight, and we have been using a non-standard units of measure.
In English, the children have been writing a non-chronological weather report about a season of their choosing.
There will not be any writing home learning this week as I think the children have earned a rest after their big write! Please make sure that the children read their books over the weekend.

Dear Parents and Carers
This week has been a busy week!
We have been writing book reviews in English.
The children have been learning about length and height in Maths.
In Science, the children were learning about what happens to trees in each season.
We will be having our trip to the South London Botanical Institute on Tuesday, if we could have two parents or family members to help us that would be amazing.
Also, we will be making bottle rockets in 2 weeks, so if you happen to have a fizzy drink could you please save the space in your recycling bin and send them our way. Thank you 🙂
