Welcome to Year 1

Week ending – 22.3.24

Hello Parents and Carers

First of all, we’d like to say a massive thank you to all of the parents who were able to attend our Science Fair! It was an amazing turn out, and your support means so much to us and the children. A special well done as well to Nicholas, Benyas, Aurelia and Dylan who done an excellent job explaining our Science project to the whole school community.

As it has been Science week, we have spent most of our week building our habitats, but we have also been learning about how to compare animal features and how to categorise animals.

In Maths, we had a very successful unit on measuring length and height. We measured using both non-standard and standard units of measure, which was fun for both classes. We will be moving on to mass and volume next week.

In English, we had a final look at recounts before we move on to descriptions next week.

We will be going on our walking trips next week, so please ensure that the children are dressed appropriately as the weather is looking like it may be a bit miserable, and we don’t want wet socks to dampen our spirits.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team

Homelearning Week 4 – 22.03.24

Hello Parents and Carers,

It has been a jam packed week in Year 1!

In Science, we have been looking at the features of different animals in different animal groups and placing them in their habitats.

Our key skill in Geography is map skills, and this week we looked at the map of our local area ahead of our local area walk in a couple of weeks.

In preparation for Clean Monday we have made kites for the children to fly for RE, and we also looked at why children receive the 40 day blessing.

This week in PSHE we have been looking at the choices that keep our bodies and minds healthy.

On a final note, for our Science week project next week we will need some cardboard boxes, so if your recycling bin needs a bit of a rest we will happily collect them in on Monday.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team
