Welcome to Nursery

Stick Man!

Dear parents and carers, we hope you are all keeping well.

This week we have been reading the story ‘Stick Man’ and the children have enjoyed making their own Stick Man out of recyclable materials.

We compared ‘Stick Man’ with ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’, how they both got lost and we created wanted posters where the children drew a picture of Stick Man and then described him.

In Maths this week, we looked at number seven and its formation. The children enjoyed measuring different size sticks using the connecting blocks. They were able to identify which one was the tallest and which the shortest.

The children have been busy practicing for our nativity play, and we have sent home lines for you to practice with your children. See below the songs.

Remembrance Day!

Dear parents and carers,

During R.E this week, we have been learning about Remembrance Day and why we celebrate it. The children made their own poppies, and we made a wreath as a class. We also watched a video about what it might have been like in wartime. CBeebies | Poppies animation – YouTube

The children also took part in Collective Worship with the whole school where we observed a two-minute silence.

This week we have looked deeper into ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’, talking about the bears being a family and how they share breakfast together. The children created pictures of their family member and shared why they are special to them.

In maths this week we looked at the number 6, using connecting blocks and numicon. The children practised number formation.

Goldilocks and three bears!

Welcome back! We hope you all enjoyed the half term break and are ready for a new term of learning!

We have been exploring the book “Goldilocks and the three bears”. We have been comparing big, medium and small. We incorporated the story into our PSHE lesson, talking about about staying safe and stranger danger. We discussed Goldilocks not being safe, going to the woods by herself and entering in a strange house.

We have learnt about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot, the children enjoyed making fireworks with different resources. We also shared how to stay safe if you attend a fireworks display.

This week in Maths, we have been looking at size, big, medium and small; we also learn about number 5 by singing ‘Five current buns’ and children practised number formation.

We hope you enjoy your weekend and be safe during Bonfire Night!

Celebrating Rosh Hashanah

Good afternoon parents/carers,

Evia team hopes that you are all well.

We have been learning and celebrating Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year). We have read the story ‘Apples and honey’, so children can understand what this festivity is about. We looked at the differences and similarities with other cultures.

We had our first cooking lesson, making honey biscuits to rejoice the Jewish New Year. Evia children helped making them by measuring the ingredients, mixing them and rolling the dough into balls. We really had fun!!

Apples symbolise hope for the sweet year ahead, therefore children have apples for their snack and made some apple printing.

We would like to wish you a lovely weekend and looking forward to seeing you next week.

Mrs Lowe & Mrs Bruno

P.S. You will find a sheet with “Proud Clouds” in your child’s bags. These are for you to write a little note, every week, telling us what amazing things your children do at home and why you feel proud of them.

Welcome to Evia

Dear parents/carers,

Evia team would like to welcome you to the new academic year.

We have been busy settling the children into their new school environment.

Just to let you know, children have settled really nicely and we look forward to explore our topic: “Into the Woods” with Owl Babies as our first book.

Wednesday we had our class trip to Battersea Park Zoo. The children had lots of fun learning about the animals, eating lunch together and playing together in the zoo play areas. Although the day was very warm the children had a great time.

Jim and the Beanstalk

This week we have been:

Reading the story ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. Jim was very kind and helpful even when he thought he might get eaten by the giant. He measured the giants head and bought him some glasses, to measured his mouth and bought him some new teeth and then bought him some new hair! We have been making out own glasses and exploring teeth and toothbrushes. We have also been writing thank you notes/card for people we love.

In maths this week we have been thinking about numbers on a dice. We have been counting spots and ladybirds and matching dice faces.

In RE this week we read a bible story called ‘Jonah and the whale’. We learnt that Jonah should have listened to God and did what he asked. God was very angry with Jonah and he taught Jonah a lesson. Jonah was very sorry and God forgave him.

We have also continued our learning about Islam this week. Miss Ali came to visit us and she explained what she does when she goes to mosque to pray. She also told us what she does at home and when she is outside her home. Some of us wanted to see what it feels like to wear a hijab and she pretended we were praying like Miss Ali.

We have really enjoyed watching our beanstalks grow this week. We have been giving them water and lots of warmth.

Next week we will be:

  • Reading the story Chicken Licken.
  • Counting and solving number problems using chicks.
  • Reading the story Daniel and the lions den.
  • Exploring hot and cold.
  • Going to the zoo.
  • Taking part in sports day.
