Welcome to Year 3

15.05.17

Last week in literacy we wrote letters to Mrs Baron to try and persuade her for a trip to the cinema to see a film based on one of our favourite films.

This was a great task for the children and really enhanced their informative letter and persuasive writing skills.

Mrs Baron was extremely impressed with the children’s writing.

In literacy this week we will be writing persuasive speeches and at the end of the week we will use them for an in class debate!

In numeracy we will be learning about the duration of time e.g. how many minutes in one hour, hours in a day etc.

However it won’t be as simple as that, we will be working out 1/4 of an hour, how many hours in 3/4 of a day etc.

Please practise duration of time at home.

In RE we are learning about how rules help us to live together and get along.

In maths we will be learning about equivalent fractions and how to order fractions in size.

This can be a difficult concept as if the denominator is larger, then the fraction is smaller.

However if the denominator is the same, you order by the numerator. Please practise this at home.

I would just like to say how fantastic Spetses class were on the school trip. We were definitely the best behaved school there and the children were able to answer so many questions in our session about earthquakes and volcanoes. They made Mrs Cini and myself very proud.

Have a lovely week,

Year 3 team.

In numeracy we will be focusing on dividing 2 digit numbers by one digit numbers. Please practise the division facts for the times tables learnt so far. This is a hard concept to understand so the more support the better.

Please ensure all home learning is returned every Wednesday and that reading books are changed often.

Kind regards,

Miss Sandberg and Mr Beverloo.

In numeracy we will be focusing on multiplication and also creating bar charts.

Please ensure you are practising times tables daily at home as it really does support their learning in numeracy. We have a weekly times table challenge in class and the children that do well get a real boost in their confidence.

Please remember home learning is due every Wednesday and books should be changed daily unless they are a long story.

Kind regards,

Miss Sandberg and Mr Beverloo.
