The Gingerbread man

This week we have been learning about:

The story of the Gingerbread man. We read the story and thought that maybe he needed a friend so we came up with some ideas and drew some pictures. We made some Gingerbread man biscuits, we rolled out the dough and cut our Gingerbread man out. We then took them to the oven and when they were cooked and cooled we decorated them with icing. We had to think about what features he needed and we decided 1 mouth, 1 nose, 2 eyes, 3 buttons and 5 fingers on each hand. We had great fun on the playdough table making playdough Gingerbread men and then putting them into the oven. We have also been counting Gingerbread men in the maths area.

We have thinking about ways of being a good friend. We have been looking at things that have made us sad and then thinking about ways we can make it better. For example, not taking things from others and asking “can I have a turn please”. We have also tried to encourage all the children to let a grown up know if they are sad so we can sort out any issues and be happy together as a family.

In RE we have been learning why we light a candle in church, and in nursery. We know that when we light the candle in nursery it’s because we are going to pray to God and Jesus. We now know that people do this in church too and that it’s our way of letting God and Jesus know we are ready to talk to him.

We are still practicing our songs for our Christmas nativity, ask the children if they can sing the songs to you at home! We will be singing a song about animals and would like the children to dress up as either a cow, a donkey or a chicken! We will let you know soon which animals the children have chosen so you can start putting a costume together for the performance on the 14th December. Please come and speak to us for more information.

Next week we will be learning about:

  • The elves and the shoemaker, thinking about being kind and making pairs.
  • 2D shapes.
  • Meeting new children, Apples and Honey Jewish Nursery are coming to visit next week and they have sent us a box for us to share and explore!

How you can help at home:

  • Counting to as far as the children can go.
  • 2D shapes they see around them.
  • Writing their names.
  • Talking about being kind to others and encourage them to tell an adult if they are unhappy about something.

Thank you very much for getting the children to school and on time, it makes such a difference when we are all in and ready to learn at the same time.

Homework books are going really well please keep those coming in.

I know most of you have used up the proud clouds we send home but we do have some more on the table as you come in so please help yourself to those, the children love hearing how proud you are of them.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
