Book Bags: Please ensure that the children bring their book bag to school every day, as in addition to being a means of transporting reading materials it is a valuable method of communication. We encourage the children to give important notes from their parents direct to their class teacher.

Uniform: Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Children will need their P.E. kits in school on a Wednesday for Crete Class and a Thursday for Santorini Class as these are our PE days. Please encourage children to be independent dressers at home, as these skills will be helpful at school.

Reading: We change the children’s reading books daily, so if they have finished their books please ensure that the children put their home reading record and reading book in the basket every morning to be changed. Please support your child with reading at home and record a comment in their reading record.

Phonics: The phonics scheme we follow is Read, Write Inc. Please read and practise your sounds and spellings with your child at home.

Year 2 Week Ending 5.5.17

Welcome to Year 2!

This week in Year 2

In our Literacy lessons we have been continuing to explore the story of The Lonely Beast by Chris Judge. We have created our own underwater poems using alliteration and similes. We have also interviewed the beast for a news report and then used these to create our own newspaper report. We will be reading the story over the next week but we would like to keep the ending a surprise for them as we will be predicting and doing creative writing on our predictions.

In Numeracy we have been focusing on division. We have solved division calculations by sharing and know that if there are any left over these are our remainders. We have also used these skills to solve division word problems. At the end of the week we have been looking at weight and using scales to measure the weight of different objects in grams.

In R.E. this week, we been learning about why Jesus taught us to love all people and to show respect for our differences.

We have continued learning on our new topic this week ‘How can we be the next masterchef?’ which has a science focus. We have identified what we think plants need to grow healthy and have created our own experiments to find out.

Weekend Writing Challenge

This week in literacy we have been continuing to read and explore the story of the Lonely Beast by Chris Judge.

For your writing task I would like you to predict your own ending for the story, identifying what you think will happen next and how the problem will be resolved. You need to include in your writing:-

  • Explaining what is going to happen next now he has spoken to the media.
  • A clear ending where the problem is resolved well.
  • A description of the beast’s feelings throughout the story.
  • Using full stops and capital letters in the correct places
  • Using direct speech between two characters.

I would like you to write at least a page for your story and I look forward to reading them!
