‘Happy Saint Cyprians Day!’

Dear parents/carers,

We hope that we find you all well.

This week we have been reading the story, ‘We Are Going on a Bear Hunt’. The children have enjoyed exploring this book and looking at different animals that hibernate.

We learnt about Saint Cyprian, who he is and why he is important to our school. The children made flowers to celebrate.

Children were having fun, learning about the bear features, and forest animals. And next week, we will keep diving deeper into the story, ‘We Are Going on a Bear Hunt’, by exploring the different elements that the family experience.

Take care and enjoy your weekend!

P.S Please remember if you would like to order a Christmas card to return the form in an envelope with the money.

Kind regards Mrs Lowe & Mrs Bruno

Celebrating Rosh Hashanah

Good afternoon parents/carers,

Evia team hopes that you are all well.

We have been learning and celebrating Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year). We have read the story ‘Apples and honey’, so children can understand what this festivity is about. We looked at the differences and similarities with other cultures.

We had our first cooking lesson, making honey biscuits to rejoice the Jewish New Year. Evia children helped making them by measuring the ingredients, mixing them and rolling the dough into balls. We really had fun!!

Apples symbolise hope for the sweet year ahead, therefore children have apples for their snack and made some apple printing.

We would like to wish you a lovely weekend and looking forward to seeing you next week.

Mrs Lowe & Mrs Bruno

P.S. You will find a sheet with “Proud Clouds” in your child’s bags. These are for you to write a little note, every week, telling us what amazing things your children do at home and why you feel proud of them.

Welcome to Evia

Dear parents/carers,

Evia team would like to welcome you to the new academic year.

We have been busy settling the children into their new school environment.

Just to let you know, children have settled really nicely and we look forward to explore our topic: “Into the Woods” with Owl Babies as our first book.

Jim and the Beanstalk

This week we have been:

Reading the story ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. Jim was very kind and helpful even when he thought he might get eaten by the giant. He measured the giants head and bought him some glasses, to measured his mouth and bought him some new teeth and then bought him some new hair! We have been making out own glasses and exploring teeth and toothbrushes. We have also been writing thank you notes/card for people we love.

In maths this week we have been thinking about numbers on a dice. We have been counting spots and ladybirds and matching dice faces.

In RE this week we read a bible story called ‘Jonah and the whale’. We learnt that Jonah should have listened to God and did what he asked. God was very angry with Jonah and he taught Jonah a lesson. Jonah was very sorry and God forgave him.

We have also continued our learning about Islam this week. Miss Ali came to visit us and she explained what she does when she goes to mosque to pray. She also told us what she does at home and when she is outside her home. Some of us wanted to see what it feels like to wear a hijab and she pretended we were praying like Miss Ali.

We have really enjoyed watching our beanstalks grow this week. We have been giving them water and lots of warmth.

Next week we will be:

  • Reading the story Chicken Licken.
  • Counting and solving number problems using chicks.
  • Reading the story Daniel and the lions den.

The Enormous Turnip

This week we been been:

Reading the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’. We have really enjoyed listening to the story and re-telling the story with each other. Mr Blair let us use him as a turnip! It was great fun trying to pull him out.

We have been exploring size by measuring turnips using rulers and tape measures. We have also been looking closer at real turnips and comparing the size and shapes of them.

We have enjoyed creating our own turnip pictures using paints and collage.

We have also been exploring up and down. We watched Kit and Pup and then explored up and down with our own experiment. We used water, fizzy water and raisins, we watched what happened to the raisins when we add them to plain water and fizzy water. We found out that the bubbles in the fizzy water made the raisins go up and down and the raisins in the plain water went down.

In RE this week we have been learning about Sikhism and exploring the 5 k’s. We have had lots of fun exploring the Kara (bangle), Kesh (turban), Kanga (comb), Kachera (shorts) and the Kirpan (sword) and reading non fiction books.

Next week we will be:

  • Exploring growing, we will be reading a story called ‘The Tiny Seed’.
  • Planting seeds.
  • Learning the sounds l, h, sh and r.
  • Thinking about teen/ty at the end of numbers.
  • Reading a story called ‘The Good Samaritan’.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week we have been:

Reading a story called ‘Butterfly Lullaby’. This story was all about too caterpillars. They looked different but they were the best of friends. They both turned into cocoons but they do not both turn into a butterfly. One turns into a butterfly and one turns into a moth! This week we focused on butterflies and moths when exploring symmetry. We have been painting symmetrical butterflies.

We have also been reading the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. The children really enjoyed listening the story and retelling the story using the puppets and wooden figures. We also made our own bridges so the goats could cross the river.

In maths we were thinking about symmetry and making symmetrical pictures. We know that the picture needs to be the same on both sides.

In phonics this week we have been learning the sounds p, g, o, c and k. We will continue thinking about these sounds next week. Your home learning this week are the sounds i, n and t. Can your practise writing these sounds?

We have been thinking about spring this week. We have been looking about what happens in springtime and what they can see around them. Please draw your spring pictures and bring them in.

Next week we will be:

  • Reading the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’
  • Reading stories that rhyme.
  • Learning the sounds u, b, f, e.
  • Measuring turnips.
  • Exploring up and down.
  • Learning about Sikhism.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears – Give Us A Story! – YouTube

In PE this week we read the story ‘Wilma unlimited’. Wilma was a very talented, strong girl who never let anything get in her way. When Wilma was unable to walk  she worked really hard to try and walk again and with lots of hard work she not only started to walk again but she could run! She then went to the Olympics and won lots of medals. We practised racing in the hall and even when it was tricky we kept on going. We practised walking, running, hopping, jumping and jumping jacks.

In phonics this week we have been learning the sounds t, i, n. We have been thinking about the sounds you can hear at the start of words.
